several years now we have been quietly, but diligently restoring a New
England, if not national historic treasure. The Flying Yankee has occupied
most of our shop and storage areas unfortunately prohibiting the pursuit
of other long term repair and restoration work for some time now. After an exhaustive, complete disassembly we were kept busy designing, planning, remanufacturing, reverse engineering, and finding replacement parts. In parallel we began replacement and repair of the carbon steel superstructure that was corroded on A and B cars and straightening cab damage as result of a 1940’s derailment. This 1934 train set is considered by many railroad historians to be the most historically significant and ambitious railroad restoration yet attempted. Truly evolutionary, the Flying Yankee was a prototype for what was to be the future of railroad equipment. (Read more) |
